| Highways |
- Seat Belts must be worn at all times.
- Open containers of alcohol are prohibited
- Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs
is illegal and penalties include a fine of at least $200 and loss of
drivers license not only in S.C. but in the drivers home state.
- Motorcycles must use headlights at all times
- Headlights must be on if windshield wipers are on
due to rain or poor road / weather conditions
- Children under the age of 17 must be restrained
by means appropriate to age and seating position.

| Alcoholic Beverages |
- You must be 21 years old to consume, buy or
possess alcoholic beverages.
- Open containers are not permitted in public
places including streets, sidewalks and beach areas.

| Litter |
- Littering on public or private property including
state waters is illegal. Cigarette butts are considered litter.

| |
| Sea Oats,
Sand Dues and Fencing |
- Sand dunes are the first line of defense for our
shoreline. Fencing and walkovers (a bridge over a dune) are designed
to protect the dunes from pedestrian traffic. Disturbing the dunes
is illegal.
- Sea oats and other vegetation help prevent
beach erosion. Cutting, breaking or destroying sea oats is illegal.

| Fireworks |
- Discharging of fireworks is illegal within the
city limits of municipalities along the Grand Strand.
|
| Driving on the Beach |
- It is unlawful to to drive or operate any
motorized vehicle on the beach or public marsh areas.
|
| Glass Containers |
- Glass containers are not permitted on the beach
|
| Swimming |
- Swimming is not permitted beyond 50 yards of the
beach or above shoulder depth. Unless stated by a lifeguard. Diving
or jumping from piers is not permitted. Swimming within 50 yards of
a pier is prohibited. Only canvas rafts may be used in the ocean.
|
| Animals |
- Any animal on the beach must be on a hand held
leash no longer than six feet. Between June 1st and October 1st,
animals are not allowed on the beach between 9 A.M. and 4 P.M. - But
9AM - 5PM May 15th - Sept 15th
- Riding a horse is unlawful on the beach between
March 1st and October 31st.
- North Myrtle Beach: dogs must be on a leash at
all times and are not permitted on the beach between 9 A.M. and 5
P.M. May 15th - Sept. 15th.
- Surfside Beach: Dogs are not pemitted on the
beach anytime between May 15 and Sept 15th. Riding horses is not
permitted on the beach at all.
